Crossword puzzles have been around for quite a while now and can be found in most local newspapers. Dr. Pete's Crosswords provides additional puzzles that, I hope, will challenge you in an enjoyable way.
These puzzles are mainly 15x15 grids, common in most US newspapers. Within these grids there are normally around 70 clues and answers. The answers are between 3 and 15 letters long and can be 1 or more words. Typically, the largest answers in a grid will have a common theme or topic. Clues can be simple or hard, plain or tricky, etc.
Crossword puzzles have one major advantage: once you answer one clue correctly you have hints on parts of several other answers. If 1-Across is a 3-letter word with the clue "Large," for example, you would write BIG in the first three spaces across the top of the puzzle. 1-Down now starts with a "B," 2-Down starts with "I," and 3-Down starts with "G." Let's say 1-Down is a 4-letter word with the clue "Invoice." The answer would be BILL. The clue might have been "__ Clinton" or "Duck's beak" or "Buffalo __" and still be BILL.
